The best part of what I do is work with dedicated people who collectively make our future better.
Citizens who choose to serve our nation have a special quality. We’re not driven by sales figures, stock prices, profit margin, billable hours, polling results or attendance numbers. Deep down we’re motivated by a conviction to make this country a better place.
I am inspired not so much by the newsworthy results of our work — although I am proud of our accomplishments. What inspires me is observing individual actions every day to do a job right, to do it well and to do it with a conviction that it will better the nation. Federal employees — civilian and military — work this way without second thought.
My best days as a federal employee are the days I look forward to my children and their children inheriting, knowing that I and other federal employees worked long and hard to make sure we leave this nation a better place.
