Q. I have a postponed retirement. When I start my annuity at age 62, must I enroll in Federal Employees Health Benefits at startup or may I enroll at a later date?

A. You have to enroll when your annuity begins.

Make sure you have enrolled in the insurance of your choice while still a technician. when you leave keep that insurance. if you stop it, you will not be able to get it back. I was medically disabled from my national guard position which medically retired me as a technician. I got another job with the insurance was cheaper so I stopped my federal technician insurance. I had lost my job and could not get my technician insurance back again. I am now going back into rehire as a federal technician losing my disability annunity. going to go for full technician retirement, have 16 years already.. Im 49 and plan to retire at 62… I will never stop my technician insurance again… once you do you cant get it back… there are a couple of rules that you can, but have to have proof those are your situation. do not let go of your insurance through the technician after you retire…. not ever, or you wont get to back.
